A heated political debate has ensued in Tamil Nadu regarding the Thirupparankundram issue, with DMK Minister P.K. Sekar Babu accusing the BJP of trying to exploit the situation to stir communal tensions for political gain. Babu claimed that the February 4 protest in Madurai’s Palanganatham was orchestrated by BJP members, not Hindu groups, and warned that any attempt to instigate violence would be firmly handled by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin. Law Minister S. Regupathy also voiced concerns, affirming that Tamil Nadu has long been known for its religious harmony and that any attempt to disrupt this would not be tolerated.
 

The controversy centers on a protest involving the consumption of non-vegetarian food on a hilltop, as well as opposition to a Hindu religious ritual. Sekar Babu dismissed the protest as a "non-issue" and accused the BJP of exploiting it for electoral advantage, predicting a decline in their vote share in the state. He also reassured the public that the DMK government would abide by court rulings on religious practices and continue to uphold worship as per judicial directives. However, BJP Tamil Nadu President K. Annamalai defended the protest, calling it peaceful and criticizing the DMK government for allegedly suppressing BJP leaders and their right to participate in demonstrations.
 

Madurai District Collector M.S. Sangeetha has taken steps to maintain communal peace, stating that external elements from both Hindu and Muslim sides were attempting to disrupt public order. She emphasized that local leaders had reached an agreement to continue existing worship practices without external interference, although the AIADMK declined to sign the agreement. Despite the controversy, the state government remains firm in its commitment to uphold law and order, with both the DMK and BJP continuing to trade accusations over the matter.
