Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has expressed doubts about the future of the INDIA alliance, calling for its dissolution if it was created solely for the 2024 Parliament elections. Abdullah highlighted the lack of clarity regarding the alliance's leadership, agenda, and overall direction, noting that no meetings of the INDIA bloc have been organized. He also mentioned that the Congress should not take its leadership position in the alliance for granted, pointing out that some partners feel the party has not done enough to justify its role as the natural leader of the opposition.
The comments come amid a tense political climate in Delhi, where the AAP, BJP, and Congress are engaged in a fierce contest. While AAP and Congress had previously united for the Lok Sabha elections, recent tensions have surfaced between the two parties in the lead-up to the Delhi Assembly polls.
Abdullah’s remarks reflect growing dissatisfaction within the opposition about the INDIA alliance’s future leadership. Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee has suggested that she would be open to leading the alliance, with several partners supporting her.
