Formation of SIT to Investigate Arrest Claims:
The Maharashtra Home Department has set up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to examine allegations that the former MVA government planned to falsely arrest Eknath Shinde and Devendra Fadnavis. The investigation was prompted by claims from businessman Sanjay Punamiya, who provided evidence of a supposed conversation between a former police officer and the ex-Mumbai Police Commissioner about the planned arrests.
Investigation to Be Led by Senior Officer:
The SIT, headed by Mumbai police officer Satyanarayan Chaudhary, has been tasked with completing its investigation within 30 days. The decision was announced in the Maharashtra assembly by senior cabinet minister Shambhuraje Desai, who emphasized the need for a thorough inquiry into the matter.
Sanjay Punamiya’s Claim:
Sanjay Punamiya, a businessman, claimed he had a sting operation that revealed a plot to frame Fadnavis and Shinde in a fake case. According to him, the arrests would have been tied to a case against him, leading to a probe by the newly formed SIT.
