AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has raised concerns over a recent court order in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, which directed a survey of the Shahi Jama Masjid, a Mughal-era mosque. Owaisi questioned the reasoning behind the survey, pointing out that the petition filed by the Hindu side only sought access to the mosque, not a survey. He argued that the Places of Worship Act prohibits changing the nature of religious places, including mosques, and questioned why a survey was still ordered.
Owaisi also referred to the violence that erupted in Sambhal on November 24 during the survey, which resulted in four deaths and several injuries. The Supreme Court intervened, halting the survey and instructing the Uttar Pradesh government to maintain peace in the region.
The AIMIM leader linked this issue to other controversies, such as a petition seeking to declare the Ajmer Sharif Dargah a temple, and warned of the potential consequences of revisiting historical religious sites. He stressed that such actions divert attention from pressing national issues like inflation, unemployment, and farmer suicides, which he believes are more important.
Owaisi also responded to comments made by RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat on population growth, sarcastically suggesting that members of the RSS should marry more and follow their own policy on family size. He concluded by reiterating his belief that divisive issues like these weaken the country and distract from more significant challenges.
