The Delhi government is intensifying its efforts to address stubble burning, a major contributor to winter pollution in the capital, by launching a significant initiative to spray bio-decomposer across 5,000 acres of farmland. This initiative, announced by Delhi Development Minister Gopal Rai, aims to curb pollution and enhance sustainable farming practices. Currently, 841 farmers have registered for the program, which will be administered free of charge, with the support of the Pusa Institute.
During a recent meeting, Gopal Rai detailed the government's comprehensive Winter Action Plan, which focuses on 21 key areas to mitigate seasonal pollution. He emphasized the role of stubble burning in exacerbating winter pollution and outlined the steps being taken to address it, including the proactive spraying of bio-decomposer. The government’s previous efforts with this method have yielded positive results, including improved soil fertility and effective stubble decomposition.
Farmers are being encouraged to complete a registration form detailing their land and crop information to ensure timely and effective application of the bio-decomposer. The spraying process is scheduled to begin in late September, and the government is conducting awareness campaigns to educate farmers about the benefits and procedures. This initiative reflects Delhi's commitment to tackling environmental issues and supporting its agricultural community.
