A significant drug and arms seizure took place in Kupwara district, Jammu and Kashmir, as a result of a joint operation conducted by the Indian Army and local police. The operation, based on specific intelligence inputs, was carried out in the Chinotra area of the Tangdhar sector near the Line of Control (LoC). The search led to the recovery of approximately four kilograms of narcotics, including heroin-like substances, along with four pistols, six magazines, and other ‘war-like stores.’
The Army’s Chinar Corps, based in Srinagar, confirmed the successful operation and reaffirmed its commitment to keeping Kashmir free from terrorism. The J&K police issued a statement detailing the seizure, noting that the consignment had been hidden by unidentified terrorists with criminal intentions. The police registered a case under various sections of the Indian Arms Act, NDPS Act, and UAPA, with investigations underway to identify the perpetrators and trace the network involved.
Additionally, the Kupwara police have made substantial progress in combating drug trafficking and narco-terrorism in the region. In 2024 alone, the police have detained several individuals under the PIT NDPS Act and have attached multiple residential properties connected to terrorism. This year, 67 cases under the NDPS Act have been registered, resulting in 103 drug peddlers' arrests. Major seizures of narcotics have been made, including heroin, charas, poppy husk, and illicit liquor. The Kupwara police continue their relentless efforts to dismantle drug networks operating in the district.
