Faf du Plessis Appointed Delhi Capitals Vice-Captain for IPL 2025
In a significant move ahead of the IPL 2025 season, seasoned South African batter Faf du Plessis has been appointed as the vice-captain of the Delhi Capitals (DC). The announcement was made by the franchise on their official social media accounts on Monday. “You mean right now? I'm at home, where else would I be? Yes, that's true, I'm vice-captain of DC, and I'm very excited,” du Plessis said in a video posted by Delhi Capitals. He added, “The boys have been fantastic, and I feel ready for the challenge.” Delhi Capitals acquired du Plessis at his base price of Rs 2 crore during the IPL mega auction held in Jeddah last year. Previously, he was part of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), where he played a crucial leadership role before being released ahead of the auction.
As vice-captain, du Plessis will play a vital role in supporting Axar Patel, the team’s captain, with on-field tactics, team strategy, and leadership guidance. With extensive IPL experience and a strong background as South Africa’s former captain, du Plessis brings valuable insights to the DC camp. During his time at RCB from 2022 to 2024, du Plessis led the team in 42 matches, winning 21 games with a balanced win-loss ratio of 1.000. He guided RCB to the playoffs twice, although the team faced defeat in the Eliminator stage on both occasions. In the past five IPL seasons, du Plessis has scored 2,718 runs in 74 innings, showcasing his consistent form in the T20 format.
