Farah Khan Recalls Boney Kapoor Using Helicopters Like Rickshaws During ‘Pukar’ Shoot in Alaska
Renowned choreographer and filmmaker Farah Khan recently shared an amusing anecdote about producer Boney Kapoor’s extravagant approach to filmmaking. In a vlog on her YouTube channel, Farah recalled an incident from the shooting of the song “Kismat Se Tum” for the film Pukar, starring Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit. The song was shot in the icy landscapes of Alaska, where Boney Kapoor went to extraordinary lengths to ensure the comfort and convenience of the crew.
During a conversation with Boney and his daughter, Khushi Kapoor, Farah reminisced about how the shoot location was only accessible via helicopters. To accommodate the entire team, Boney arranged for multiple helicopters, using them as casually as rickshaws. “Your father was using helicopters like rickshaws,” she joked.
She went on to recall another instance where director Rajkumar Santoshi expressed a craving for Indian food in the middle of the remote, snow-covered location. Boney Kapoor, ever resourceful, managed to find an Indian chef despite the challenging circumstances. “We were in a remote corner of Alaska, almost like the North Pole, and Boney somehow organized a full Indian feast. He laid out butter chicken, naan, biryani, paneer, and dal makhani. I couldn’t believe it! He even arranged for a cook and had everything ferried to the location. The helicopter was being used like Dunzo for food delivery,” Farah shared.
Farah also praised Boney Kapoor’s dedication to quality filmmaking, emphasizing how he never hesitates to reshoot scenes if they do not meet his expectations. She mentioned that her husband, filmmaker Shirish Kunder, has worked as an editor on some of Boney’s films and was always amazed by his approach. “My husband would often tell me he has never worked with a producer like Boney. If a scene doesn’t look good, he won’t think twice—he’ll call the director and insist on reshooting it, regardless of the cost. While most producers might settle for ‘anything goes,’ Boney always prioritizes perfection, even if it means incurring losses,” she added.
Farah’s recollections highlight Boney Kapoor’s unwavering commitment to grand filmmaking and his unique ability to go above and beyond for his projects.
